Description
The Glass Alchemy Agua Azul rod is often considered one of the best borosilicate colors. This opaque aqua blue is stunning on its own and harmonizes or contrasts perfectly with nearly all the shades in the Glass Alchemy palette. Ideal for embedding applications, it has become one of the most sought-after opaques in the world of borosilicate glass.
Usage tip: Work with this color using a neutral flame for the best results. Keep it at 975°F in the garage and anneal at 1050°F.
Mike Shelbo, a glass artist, shares his experience: “This opaque aqua blue works perfectly and has never given me any trouble. Its popularity comes from its reliability and exceptional results, no matter the context.”
Mike Shelbo uses Agua Azul for various techniques: murrine, solid sculptures, blown work on clear tubes, or in applications with or without embedding. This blue retains its richness even when stretched into fine threads, melting smoothly to provide a homogeneous, creamy appearance.
When blown very thin, Agua Azul can reveal slight translucency and tiny air bubbles. However, this only appears when it is not embedded and blown to less than a millimeter in thickness. Its ability to complement or contrast a wide range of Glass Alchemy colors makes it a must-have.
Since his first use, Mike Shelbo has incorporated it as an essential part of his artistic palette, offering versatility and reliability for diverse creations.
The Glass Alchemy Agua Azul rod is a perfect choice for glass artists looking for a vibrant and stable blue, whether for complex works or subtle details.
