Description

The Glass Alchemy Sno White rod is a dense, opaque white made with tin oxide. The name “Sno” is a chemistry joke, adding a geeky touch to this glass. This pure white is designed to provide a solid finish, even when drawn into fine stringers or blown very thin.

Usage Tip: Heat slowly to establish the base temperature. Once the heat is stabilized, you can work at higher temperatures. Air bubbles formed during the preheating phase will smooth out as the glass is heated. Avoid overheating this color, as it may release excessive gas that cannot be repaired.

Mike Shelbo, a glass artist, explains: “This opaque white crayon is highly saturated, allowing you to draw it into fine stringers or blow it very thin while maintaining a solid white finish.”

If you want a translucent or milky effect, you can sandwich Sno White between clear glass and blow it thin. Without encasement, you should work Sno White like other crayon colors. It’s best to heat it about an inch from the work area to avoid bubbling.

Sno White melts smoothly into itself, leaving no trace where the color overlaps. For solid, thick sculptures, Mike Shelbo prefers to encase a clear rod with Sno White. This makes the sculpture’s core more flexible and allows it to retain heat longer.

The Glass Alchemy Sno White rod also pairs very well with Glass Alchemy translucent colors, offering a softer, vibrant palette for bold creations. This white is an ideal option for artists looking to explore a broader range of shades while maintaining a clean, sharp finish.
