Northstar Bubblegum Rod

Description

The Northstar NS-062 Bubblegum rod is a bright, opaque, and stable pink. This glass remains intact regardless of the flame atmosphere. However, it is sensitive to heat, so it must be heated gently in a moderate flame to prevent boiling. Once properly heated, the NS-062 can withstand high temperatures without issue.

This Bubblegum pink glass is ideal as a backing color for various glass artworks. For example, it can serve as a base for glasses such as NS-013 Amber/Purple or NS-026 Double Amber/Purple. Its stability also makes it a recommended option for sculptures, where a solid base is often necessary. Additionally, it works perfectly as a backing for gold fume applications.

To effectively work with heat-sensitive colors, it’s crucial to understand the specific properties of the material. The Northstar Bubblegum rod, for instance, contains colorants sensitive to rapid or high temperatures. This requires the rod to be heated slowly and gradually in the flame. The most intense opaque colors, like Bubblegum, are often the most challenging to handle.

To avoid damaging the glass surface, it is important to pass the glass through the cooler areas of the flame before gently bringing it closer to the hotter parts. This technique minimizes the risks of boiling or surface marking.
