Description

Northstar Canary frit is an opaque, intense, and vibrant lemon yellow. Its color immediately catches the eye. It’s perfect for fine details and blown glass pieces. This glass works well but requires care. Use a soft, oxidizing flame. Work slowly to avoid boiling. Canary is heat-sensitive.

This yellow isn’t highly reactive to flame chemistry. However, avoid overly reducing flames. On the surface, it remains stable if handled gently. It can be encased in clear glass, but that’s optional.

Canary is available in both frit and rod form. Frit is crushed glass. It quickly adds color and texture to your work.

There are several techniques for applying frit. The roll method involves heating the object, then rolling it in a bowl of frit. The sprinkle method uses a spoon or fingers. Avoid sprinkling directly in the flame, as it scatters the frit. Use a clean plate underneath to collect excess. The tube method applies frit inside a hollow object. The rod method heats the end of a clear rod, then dips it in frit.

Always work frit in a soft flame. Excessive heat can cause it to boil. Gradual heating is key. Wear a dust mask and use an exhaust hood. Frit releases fine particles.

In the end, test, explore, and create. There is no wrong way. Canary offers a vivid palette, ready to be tamed with care and curiosity.
