Description
The Northstar TAG-025 Wisteria rod is an innovative color that has marked a major breakthrough in the boro palette. This opaque and dense purple stands out for its unique texture and its ability to become translucent when worked into thin layers. Initially textured, the Wisteria rod smooths easily under the influence of the flame. This color is delicate, requiring a careful approach in its use. Like all opaque shades in the Candy line, Wisteria responds best when heated with a soft, enveloping flame rather than an aggressive one. This gentle flame allows the glass to melt slowly without creating tension or visible defects.
While Wisteria is not naturally bubbly, it may contain small air pockets inside its rods. If these rods are exposed to a strong flame while cold, the trapped air in the glass can create bubbles on the surface, resembling boiling. This phenomenon occurs when air is expelled from the rod due to heat. For this reason, it is recommended to work slowly and carefully. Using a soft, neutral flame makes it easier to release larger air bubbles during work, ensuring a cleaner and more controlled result.
It is important to note that although many people succeed with these colors, the opaque Candy line, which includes the Northstar TAG Wisteria rod, has a slightly higher COE than other colors. This means it is crucial to test this material in the specific application before using it on a larger scale. Thermal compatibility with other types of glass should be checked to avoid cracks or breakage.
