Northstar Dark Ruby rod

Description

The Northstar NS-008 Dark Ruby rod is the most saturated transparent ruby from Northstar. It must be worked in a hot oxidizing flame to prevent liveriness. Due to its intensity, it strikes easily in the flame. This ruby is ideal for small sculptural accents, cane work, and stringers. When fully struck, it can produce a rich opaque Chinese red.

Northstar’s Ruby color family is diverse, with each shade carefully formulated for specific applications. For example, the NS-007L Light Ruby is perfect for sculptural work, while the NS-088 Pomegranate rod, the lightest of the self-striking rubies, is easy to use. When heated, it becomes transparent and, upon cooling, regains its red hue depending on its thickness. This treatment process should be done in a kiln for optimal results. The NS-155 Ruby Slippers rod, inspired by a previous version, consists of a base of NS-088 Pomegranate enhanced by a TAG Stardust sparkle. In contrast, the NS-008 Dark Ruby is well-suited for fine applications.

To achieve the best results, it is essential to work in a neutral to oxidizing flame. When heated, these rubies become transparent, but when reheated, they return to their original color. It is crucial not to overstrike them to avoid a dull red. Self-striking rubies, like the NS-088 Pomegranate, also offer interesting properties and are ideal for sculptural applications, ensuring brilliant results.
