The Glass Alchemy Cobalt Lite rod is a light, transparent cobalt blue, easy to work with, ideal for large sculptures and heat studies. In the cobalt range, there is also Cobalt-5, a deep and saturated blue, and Cobalt-6, the darkest and most dense, perfect for intense and luminous effects.
The lightest of the cobalt blues, the Glass Alchemy Cobalt Lite rod was designed to provide artists with a density suitable for gathering material for large sculptural pieces.
Working Tip: Use a neutral flame to avoid reduction (gray streaks).
Its working characteristics are similar to those of clear glass. For blowing or solid sculpture, the color can be worked extensively without the need for encasement. When pulled thin enough, the blue tint becomes less visible.
In the range of cobalt blues, there are also the highly sought-after shades Cobalt-5 and Cobalt-6. The Glass Alchemy Cobalt-5 rod is an intense and highly saturated cobalt blue, appreciated for its ease of handling and rich color. Less stiff than Cobalt-6, it melts cleanly and integrates seamlessly into blown pieces or stringers. It reveals a remarkable brilliance in transparency, especially when backlit.
Cobalt-6 is the darkest and most dense of the Glass Alchemy cobalt blues. Highly saturated, it can appear almost black, but remains transparent even in very thin threads. It requires a neutral flame to avoid gray patches and is perfect for use in thin blown layers, producing a deep and luminous cobalt blue.
